About Marco
Marco Battaglia was born and raised in Des Moines — he grew up on the north side attending Hoover High School and now lives with his family on their acreage on the south side.
Marco lived in Cedar Falls for four years while attending the University of Northern Iowa. He has traveled around the state, and country, playing music with his band Dark Mirror and traveled around the state and the district during past campaigns for office.
Marco's roots are tied to immigration — his mom's family immigrated here to Madrid, Iowa from Italy when she was a small child and his father is a son of Norwegian immigration who grew up on a family farm in Minnesota before joining the Peace Corps and then moving to Iowa to be a teacher. Marco grew up playing bass guitar, and learned valuable lessons as a youth interviewing Veterans of the world's wars for Congressional records.
Marco has raised funds and drummed up support for ending human trafficking in Iowa, for harm reduction, barrier-free design, community gardens, edible architecture, community based mental health and addiction support, and for the Housing First Model of Houselessness support.
Marco has ties throughout the district with family in Essex and Bedford, and campaign staff in Villisca, Jefferson, and Bloomfield.
In his free time, Marco enjoys playing with his band, spending time with his family, spending time in nature and with animals, sports (including professional wrestling), and gardening.
Marco has two sons of whom he could not be more proud!
Marco's Background in Politics
Marco has experience running for Iowa Attorney General and Des Moines City Council, and many years of experience in Corrections and as a Financial Crimes Investigator. He has helped victims of fraud and elder abuse, educated many individuals on their rights and the law, and helped to make cases against thieves and all manner of more violent criminals. Marco was inspired to run for office after learning about the service of former Iowa Governor and Senator, Harold Hughes.
The people of District 3 did the work to get Marco on the ballot this November. Marco has helped break up the two party system in Iowa and has been endorsed by former Minnesota Governor Jesse Ventura, who helped do so in Minnesota. Marco has long advocated for medical freedom, family law reform and stronger protections for Iowa's children and their parents. Marco does not accept dark money, money from PACs, or donations from anyone outside the individuals he would be expected to serve in Congress.
Marco will work with anyone to serve Iowans. He believes in being a statesman rather than a politician. Marco's campaign staff has featured individuals from all over the political spectrum, including people of different backgrounds and abilities.
As your House Representative, Marco will work to lower costs, raise the value of our currencies, restore the republic, stand up for the power of the purse and war powers, and hold Congress and the other branches of government accountable. He will also fight to improve the lives of Iowa families and help us work together to solve some of our toughest challenges.
Marco will stand for the inherent rights of all Iowans without punching down on anyone.
